Petfinder and Canine Castaways, Inc. Help Reunite Dog with Dad

In 2002, Rick and his wife divorced. The wife was awarded custody of Penny, a terrier mix. In February of 2004, Rick discovered that his ex-wife had given Penny away. Despite his efforts, he was unable to locate her. After several weeks, Rick and Sheila, his new wife, decided to get another dog. The couple did not have access to the internet so Sheila enlisted the help of her daughter who lives in Ohio. Her daughter began a search on www.Petfinder.com for a dog in Florida similar to Penny. Imagine everyone's surprise when the daughter found a dog named Penny on Canine Castaways' Petfinder web page that was remarkably similar. Penny is a very unique looking, senior terrier mix and had been in a foster home with the rescue group for nearly two months. After confirming that the dog was in fact one and the same, Penny and her dad were happily reunited. The two had not seen each other in over two years; however, whenever he spoke to her Penny became excited and leapt into his arms. This heartwarming story would not have been possible without the ability to search nationwide for a pet through Petfinder.
