Canine Castaways, Inc. proudly supports DeSoto County Pet Therapy, Inc. This organization was recently founded by Bonnie Coker, who is also a Canine Castaways volunteer.

DESOTO COUNTY PET THERAPY

PET THERAPY TRAINING AND EVALUATION OFFERED...

Desoto County Pet Therapy, Inc. will be offering a Pet Therapy Training and Evaluation for anyone interested in having their dog certified as a therapy dog. This is a requirement of all dogs wishing to participate in the Book Buddies program and is also very useful for trips to nursing homes and hospitals. A $10 donation is requested. The class will be held at the Memorial Elementary School in Arcadia on the 4th Thursday of each month from 3 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

BOOK BUDDIES PROGRAM...

Book Buddies is a new reading program for children in DeSoto County. Bonnie Coker has worked very hard with the Sarasota Humane Society to get this program going in DeSoto County. This program will take certified therapy dogs into the schools to help children having trouble reading. The children will actually get to read to the dogs. Just another way our furry friends can help people lead better lives. "A good reader is just a wag of a tale away!"
